HIRING PROCEDURES

Selecting and recruiting high-quality staff - Garda favours employment equity and has formally declared its commitment to respect the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We are committed to maintaining a work environment that is free of discrimination and harassment at all times. We hold a certificate of commitment to implement an employment equality program for federal contracts (certificate #50436).

General requirements - Candidates must meet the criteria set out for each position. Garda verifies candidates' criminal record and employment references. A good reputation and moral qualities are essential.

SELECTION PROCESS

Employment Record Form - The Employment Record Form is used to gather relevant information on each candidate.

Screening interview - This interview is the first meeting between a Garda human resources officer and the candidate. The interview covers the information provided on the Employment Record Form. We determine whether candidates meet our selection criteria.

Pre-employment training course - All candidates applying for the positions of security officer must pass our basic training course at the Garda Academy. This course is based on the training manual for Garda's security guards. Our experience has shown that this course is an excellent tool for forecasting candidates' professional success in the field of security. Furthermore, candidates may acquire a basic knowledge of how to perform the tasks entrusted to them. This training program complies with the general standard of Canada for security guards and security guard supervisors (CAN/CGSB-133-1).

Placement interview - The placement interview allows Garda to obtain more information on the individual. It is also an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the position. The immediate superior for the position to be filled often takes part in the placement interview.

Reference inquiry - We conduct a reference check with a candidate's former employers to ensure that the information provided on the Employment Record Form is accurate. Since honesty is a fundamental part of working with Garda, this verification is important to us.

Medical examination – For candidates applying to the armoured car transportation, a medical examination may be requested to verify the candidate's health condition.

Hiring - Finally, we proceed with the official hiring of candidates who have successfully completed all the stages of the selection process.

Selection by clients (for security officers only)

Our clients sometimes wish to select the people who will work at their place of business. In such cases, we help clients identify the candidates who best suit their needs and who will easily integrate into the company. Interviews may be held at a client's offices. If the client deems it appropriate, we will be present at the interview.
