GardaWorld’s donation supports victims of ISIS violence in Kurdistan

August 13, 2018

At GardaWorld, corporate social responsibility is part of our core mission. That’s why we support organizations that produce direct results in the communities where we work. Last year, we made a $10,000 donation to SEED.

An organization that makes a difference

SEED, which is based in Erbil, Kurdistan, provides counseling, medical services and practical support to women and children who have been affected by violence—including those who have been abducted and raped by ISIS militants. The organization also provides life skills training, as well as business and farming support, to help build more secure, prosperous and resilient communities.

A Thank You from SEED

Here’s what Sherri Kraham Talabany, President and Executive Director of the SEED Foundation, had to say about GardaWorld’s support: “Thanks to your donation, we were able to expand our work dramatically to serve people impacted by violence across Kurdistan with comprehensive services.”

In 2017, SEED began providing services in five new towns and cities. In addition, SEED scaled up its mobile services to 30 locations, including many camps for refugees and internally displaced people.

GardaWorld’s donation was instrumental to this expansion, which included psychosocial training for frontline responders. “We delivered comprehensive services to the displaced, survivors of violence, and those at risk, combining mental health and a broad range of social support services,” Kraham Talabany wrote. “Our holistic and long-term approach is unique in Kurdistan, with specialized services and high-quality, trauma-informed care.”

GardaWorld’s commitment to corporate social responsibility

Whether we’re supporting people locally or abroad, corporate social responsibility is part of our core mission. At GardaWorld, we are on the ground in communities that have been affected by genocide, persecution, and war. We know that the best path to long-term security is through psychological and community-based healing, combined with educational and career opportunities. We believe in the work that SEED does and are proud to help make it possible
